System/Field Engineer

The following temporary position is available on a contractual basis:

System/Field Engineer

Will perform on-site installation, service, and repair of complex ground based satellite communication equipment and IP networking systems. As well, will verify and validate the operational quality of system equipment and instruct customers in the operation and maintenance of system equipment. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline and 3 to 7 years’ experience with good communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with customers. Knowledge of other languages is a definite asset. 50% international travel will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Install and commission PolarSat supplied equipment and instruct customer in the operation and maintenance of the systems

  • Work on complex technical problems requiring action and decision making

  • Use professional concepts and internal procedures to solve a wide range of difficult situations in innovative and practical ways

  • Provide on-line technical support to customers as required

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of IP related protocols and features, Routing, TCP/IP, VoIP, QoS, NAT, DHCP, VPN, etc.

  • Good knowledge of satellite communication technologies; TDMA-DAMA, SCPC, DVB, DAMA, RF and antenna systems.

  • Good knowledge of internet protocol and related networking application.

  • Ability to work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices in selecting methods for obtaining solutions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and ability to deal effectively with customers.

  • Well organized and able to self-manage and work with minimal guidance.

  • Ability to work under high pressure; constantly changing environment.

  • Familiar with the use of a Spectrum Analyzer
