VSATPlus 3 - Full-mesh IP hubless architecture

Fully integrated IP based services in a single platform the VSATPlus 3 terminal is built on TDMA with frequency hopping (FHOP). Taking advantage of both time domain and frequency domain access methods, the VSATPlus 3 allows users to support multiple services such as data, voice, and videoconferencing in one simple, integrated IP transport platform. The VSATPlus 3 modem supports Mesh Adaptive Coding and Modulation (Mesh-ACM™ ) between all sites in the network for maximum flexibility of antenna sizes and availability by compensating for rain fades.

VSATPlus 3 Key Features

VSATPlus 3 is Hubless operation.

The single VSATPlus 3 platform integrates with IP based routing and user equipment allowing for a more reliable, flexible, and economical solution. Hubless, full mesh operation within a single satellite hop. The VSATPlus 3 architecture eliminates the need for costly central hub equipment and improves call quality by transferring information over single satellite hops. Since there is no hub the equipment can be located at the user locations and not require a teleport or large antenna. This avoids the need to interconnecting the customer equipment to the teleport and the single point of failure this link introduces. Having the equipment located on the customer premises gives the perfect solution for private networks. PolarSat's hubless operation provides a powerful and cost-effective solution to corporations, governments, and service providers who need to interconnect locations via a full mesh satellite-based backbone.

 VSATPlus 3 supports Full-Mesh Connectivity

The VSATPlus 3 is based on a flexible architecture that supports various network typologies including star, full mesh, hybrid, or any combination of these. User traffic is routed directly from on terminal to any other terminal in the network. The VSATPlus 3 supports this traffic between terminals based on the traffic need unlike hub based systems which best support star type connections.

MeshACM.jpg

VSATPlus 3 delivers Mesh Adaptive Coding and Modulation (Mesh-ACM™ )

The Mesh-ACM on the VSATPlus 3 system, the modulation and FEC coding are adapted from burst-to-burst to augment the throughput. Mesh-ACM adapts the Modulation and Coding between all terminals in the network, optimizing the channel throughput of the entire network.  This features greatly improves the overall efficiency of the network and reduces the required satellite bandwidth as compared to non Mesh-ACM capable systems.

Mesh-ACM works in conjunction with uplink power control (ULPC) to dramatically improve overall satellite space segment efficiency AND link availability. Mesh-ACM can deliver bandwidth efficiency gains of greater than 40-50% as compared to other mesh systems without Mesh-ACM.  The performance improvement is achieved by allowing each individual station to operate at the most efficient Coding and Modulation dependent on the antenna size, satellite contour and weather conditions.

VSATPlus 3 has dynamic Bandwidth on Demand and QoS buit in

Satellite bandwidth is allocated through committed information rate (CIR), excess information rate (EIR), and Quality of Service (QoS) definitions, and optimized using dynamic bandwidth allocation (BoD) techniques, thereby minimizing recurring communications network costs. This approach provides user traffic with guaranteed bandwidth and the ability to request additional bandwidth from the network. VSATPlus 3 provides the virtual LAN in the sky with the satellite bandwidth resource shared among all users. The Ethernet Interface supports industry-standard IP. Corporate users are provided a single transport mechanism that can carry all user traffic such as TCP/IP, UDP/IP, while providing mesh (peer-to-peer) communications among all sites within the network.
