Hub Features
Scalability
PolarSat's NANOOK system has the advantage of
a relatively low initial hub investment to start network trials
or pilot service. In addition, the NANOOK hub system integrates
with existing equipment to leverage a provider’s existing
substantial investment.
Multi-Service System
NANOOK's hub allows service providers to utilize a mix of both one-way
receive only and two-way platforms. This means that service providers
can select the optimal mix of remote terminal types and associated
services to meet a wide variety of applications. One-way service
providers can now upgrade to support two-way applications. The hub
supports video and audio stream multiplexing in addition to the
IP data transport.
Redundancy
The NANOOK system provides a hub redundancy option. The entire hub
or specific elements can be made redundant based upon the operator’s
needs.
Network Management
PolarSat's Network Management System (NMS) is based upon the Simple
Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to manage the elements of the
NANOOK Broadband Access system. It enables operators to quickly
deploy the suite of broadband services. The NMS provides the gateway
necessary to link electronically with upstream OSS. A selection
of protocols is available to support northbound interoperability
to existing OSS systems.
The system offers a user friendly Graphical User Interface
(GUI), which simplifies Operation, Administration and Maintenance
(OA&M) tasks. It includes applications for Fault, Configuration,
Accounting, Performance, and Security (FCAPS) management.
