PolarSat’s Broadband Access system provides instant access to the Internet and corporate Intranet. With forward link rates up to 45Mbps and return link rates up to 2 Mbps, users can truly enjoy always-on high-speed connectivity. The user experiences fast Internet page browsing and file downloads through the use of TCP acceleration.

Videoconferencing
Videoconferencing reduces travel costs and downtime due to travel and provides a richer
form of communications between people that
are at geographically diverse locations.
Integrated Bandwidth-on-Demand saves money by only using the bandwidth when the VTC is operating. QoS insures that the video traffic is prioritized and doesn’t breakup due to network congestion.

Distance Learning/Corporate Training
The NANOOK Broadband Access system allows the educator to build a mix of training media that is instructionally effective and delivered at a low cost. High bandwidth supports the delivery of timely content and real-time 2-way video teleconferencing to busy and distributed work forces. Classes can be delivered in a very cost effective manner using the Multicast feature where a single transmission can be received by multiple terminals. This allows course material to be distributed and stored locally for later retrieval or to be viewed in real-time.

Voice-over-IP (VoIP)
Integrated voice support reduces the customer's costs by bundling this with the broadband service. This removes the need for a customer to procure separate service offerings for voice and data. Service providers gain the benefit of incremental revenue on the deployed broadband service. Built-in Quality of Service (QoS) ensures that voice transmissions experience a minimal jitter even during periods of high volume network traffic.

Telemedicine
PolarSat’s NANOOK system supports both two-way interactive television (IATV) for real-time consultations and the store-and-forward technique for transferring high-resolution image files. Supporting both of these techniques cost effectively in a single terminal allows the health care professional to combine both store-and-forward, interactive and video still images in a variety of combinations and applications. The low cost of delivering this service can make specialty care more accessible to underserved rural and urban populations. Combined with videoconferencing, it allows for new possibilities for continuing education or training for isolated or rural health practitioners.
