FlexiDAMA Terminal

The FlexiDAMA unit (FDU) contains a DAMA Controller Card (DCC) along with one to six Voice Channel Units (VCU) or Data Channel Units (DCU). The FDU also contains a high quality local oscillator which is disciplined to GPS for a highly accurate timing reference. The FDU can also house (in slot 6) an internal ring generator for DCUs configured with an FXS telephone interface. The FDU interfaces, on the satellite transmission side, at 70 MHz or optionally at L band.

The FlexiDAMA unit accommodates two types of user interface cards, the Voice Channel Unit (VCU) and the Data Channel Unit (DCU). Up to six of any combination of these printed circuit cards may plug directly into each FlexiDAMA terminal. The DCU card handles synchronous data from 9.6 to 2048 kbps, low speed asynchronous data (1.2 to 28.8 kbps), or direct 10BaseT Ethernet data on a single card using common hardware. The VCU handles 9.6/16/32 kbps for voice and inband fax/data.

A remote site simply consists of an antenna, transceiver, LNB/SSPA, Antenna Controller (if required) and a FlexiDAMA Unit (FDU).
