PolarSat VSAT equipment being installed in
South Asia tsunami relief effort
Montreal, Quebec, Canada, January 12, 2005 – PolarSat is pleased
to have an integral role in rebuilding the communications infrastructure
in South Asia following the tsunami disaster.
Through Telenor Satellite Services / Corporate
Networks (www.telenor.com/satellite)
and various NGOs, our VSAT equipment is currently being rushed first
to Indonesia and Sri Lanka followed by the other countries affected
by the tsunami. Over 30 sites are already en route to the area and
needs are currently being assessed for supplementary equipment.
These sites will enable emergency voice and data communications
facilitating the coordination of relief efforts.
Indeed, reconstruction work began within hours
of the disaster. “Having experienced technical personnel posted
in Jakarta, we were able to respond quickly to repairing and reinstalling
much of our equipment already existing in the ravaged areas”
proudly declared Moshe Ben-Shach, Executive Vice President Supply
Services.
Marc Lupien, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing,
added “In addition to our current mandate, we are actively
working with the Canadian government to increase our participation
in the relief efforts, depending on where their people “on
the ground” see the greatest need”.
