We are very pleased with this win and have selected PolarSat VSAT technology to serve our valued customers in this important market segment. PolarSat has an extensive successful track record in mission-critical Air Traffic Control communications networking that matches with BAY-SAT’s own experience. This technology expands BAY-SAT’s product mix and provides our customers with a complete solution to their Air Traffic Control (ATC) needs”, said Joachim Haberecht-Kaiser, CEO of BAY-SAT.

The Sudanese ATC network consists of total of 12 remote sites and Air Traffic Control (ATC) master control station all connected in a full mesh all-IP based network. The VSAT network configured as a fully redundant network to the fiber optic network, provides backbone connectivity for VHF voice communications relay to cover the national airspace. The airspace is controlled by their fully redundant ATC master control VSAT station, located in Khartoum. Furthermore, the VSATPlus®3 provides geographic redundancy in transporting master control station traffic. In the event of a failure of the master control station the VSATPlus®3 system automatically provides connectivity to one of the 12 remote ATC sites. All sites will support a complex mix of voice and data communications including VHF Extended Range, Hot Lines, Radar, AMHS, ADS-B, metrological data, Intranet, Internet and general corporate internal communications.

“The Civil Aviation Authority of Sudan is proud to be leading the way in the region in its relentless pursuit to provide safe and secure commercial aviation, and selecting the BAY-SAT /PolarSat team as key technology partners will form an integral force behind such a pursuit” , said Khedir Elemam Ahmed, CAA’s Product Manager Systems Engineering and Maintenance .

Ron Mankarious, Vice President of Sales and Marketing said, “PolarSat is very pleased to work with both BAY-SAT and SCAA because of their extensive experience and excellent reputation in this market. The selection of VSATPlus®3 shows how well the VSATPlus®3 hubless full mesh architecture fits the demanding ATC requirements. Migrating to an IP network allows the support of the older ATC equipment while providing a native IP backbone for new applications and equipment. Combined with VSATPlus®3 bandwidth savings features of Bandwidth on Demand, Compression, and its latest optional feature - Mesh Adaptive Coding and Modulation (Mesh-ACM Trademark) - provides some of the industry’s lowest recurring costs. VSATPlus®3 is becoming the technology of choice for ATC applications as proven by the number of project wins in this critical market segment.

The VSATPlus®3 family of terminals provides a full mesh, hubless network with no single point of failure and offers the greatest ease of network configuration and expansion. It supports the most demanding network applications including high quality voice, low and high-speed data, video conferencing and fax - all in a single low-cost, integrated platform.
